Women’s water polo sweeps Lancer Joust tournament

The San Jose State women’s water polo team (6-5, 0-1 MPSF) swept Cal Baptist University 9-6 and Concordia University 16-8 in the Lancer Joust tournament on Saturday.

In the first match against No. 23 Cal Baptist (11-10), freshmen Matilda Moore and Olga Descalzi Portell, and sophomore Tyanna Supreme scored two goals each.

Junior captain Sierra Painter, Caroline Kerwin and freshman Emma Hank also contributed with a goal each to put the Spartans on top with the 9-6 victory. Hank’s goal was her first in a Spartan uniform.

During the second match, Supreme scored three more goals against Concordia, bringing her total to five goals for the whole tournament.

Painter led SJSU with four goals, followed by sophomore Lili Urvari with three goals and an assist. Kerwin also tallied two goals in the 16-8 win.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Hannah Henry made eight saves in the match against Cal Baptist and seven more saves against Concordia.

The Spartans dive back in on Friday at the LMU Invitational against Marist at 10:30 a.m. and Princeton at 3:30 p.m.
