The No. 11 San Jose State men’s water polo finished Friday night at the Princeton Invitational with a dominant showing versus Long Island University, winning the game 22-10 to improve its record to 3-1.
Sophomore utility Sam Keightley led the way for the Spartans, tying his career high with 5 goals in the game and adding to his 14 goals scored through the first four games of the season.
Keightley was the second-leading scorer for SJSU last year with 56 goals, where he had two other games with 5 goals while helping the Spartans to the West Coast Conference championship.
The Spartans saw 13 different players score a goal, with sophomore driver Bence Kristok scoring a hat trick to help SJSU to a season-high 22 goals in the game.
Despite not scoring through the first two games of the season, Kristok has scored 5 goals across two games played at the Princeton Invitational.
After the match, SJSU head coach Gabor Sarusi said the team was able to get everyone minutes while preparing for its next two games.
“Everybody got a lot of playing time,” Sarusi said. “We’re looking forward to playing Harvard and Princeton tomorrow.”
SJSU men’s water polo is back in action at 8 a.m. on Saturday for day two of the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, New Jersey, to take on No. 18 Harvard University.
