Sophomore forward Ryan Corcoran made his first start for the San Jose State men’s soccer team in its 2-1 win over Sacramento State on Sunday.
Corcoran transferred from De Anza College, where he was named the school’s Male Breakthrough Athlete of the Year.
He played in 14 games, starting in eight, and scored 14 goals during the 2025 season.
“Junior college was a pretty solid level, it’s not as far off of this top level as people may think. I think it’s a great route. I’m a product of that,” Corcoran said.
The Spartans logged their first win of the season against Sac State, a much-needed win after their 1-0 defeat against Stanford on Friday.
“I think this puts us in a really good place going forward. We really needed the win after Stanford,” Corcoran said.
The win added to a shared desire to make the Spartans Soccer Complex a tough place to play.
“We really needed this one so that we can start to really believe going forward and create the fortress that we want our home to be,” Corcoran said.
The Spartans look to continue building against the University of Pacific at 7 p.m. Thursday at Spartan Soccer Complex in San Jose, Calif.
