San Jose State women’s volleyball lost 3-0 against Utah Tech University at Bren Events Center in Irvine, California, on Friday.
Despite falling to the Trailblazers, the Spartans showed determination competing throughout the match.
The match opened with SJSU displaying strong energy and skill on the court. Utah Tech eventually took control and finished with 63 points compared to SJSU’s 48.
The Trailblazers recorded 55 kills, while the Spartans finished with 37. Although Utah Tech found offensive success, SJSU created opportunities of its own.
The Spartans ended with a .231 hitting percentage while committing 12 attack errors. SJSU graduate student outside hitter Zuzana Kosíková scored 11 kills and had a .400 hitting percentage, which helped strengthen SJSU.
The Spartans showed strength at the service line, recording 5 aces and finishing with 6 total blocks.
SJSU’s ability to continue fighting despite Utah Tech’s offensive pressure was an encouraging part of the performance.
The Spartans demonstrated competitiveness through serving, blocking, and defensive effort while continuing to look for momentum opportunities.
Following their win against LSU New Orleans on Sept. 6, this loss puts the Spartans’ overall record at 4-3.
“The way they played after the first set, they took control of the match,” SJSU head coach Todd Kress said. “So we just have to learn that once we have the team down and they fight back, we definitely have to show the same grit and determination in response to that.”
The team will build on its strengths, learn from the challenges, and use the experience to prepare for what’s next. The Spartans’ determination throughout the match reflects a team that is continuing to grow, compete, and push forward.
SJSU will look to carry that energy and resilience as it heads to face California State University, Long Beach at 4 p.m. Saturday at LBS Financial Credit Union Pyramid in Long Beach, California.
