No. 10 San Jose State men’s water polo closed out the weekend at the Aggie Roundup with a 12-6 exhibition victory over American River College.
SJSU entered the match following a 14-8 win over No. 18 Harvard and a 14-10 loss to No. 4 University of California, Berkeley earlier in the day, making the American River game the Spartans’ third contest of Saturday’s schedule.
The Spartans cruised against the junior college opponent, using this exhibition as an opportunity for every player to gain experience.
“The American River game was a great opportunity for everybody to play,” SJSU head coach Gabor Sarusi said.
Offensive pressure was key for the Spartans, finding the back of the net 12 times whilst holding the Beavers to 6 goals.
Utility Samu Biros was at the forefront of the Spartans offense charge, tallying 9 total goals during the Aggie Roundup and bringing his career goal total to 102.
Although the American River matchup was an exhibition, the win provided SJSU with one final opportunity to compete before heading across the country for the Princeton invitational.
The Spartans will be back in action next week at the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, N.J., from Sept. 11-12. They will open the invitational against Wagner College at 9:30 a.m. Friday.
