No. 11 San Jose State men’s water polo (4-1) won its matchup 13-9 against Harvard (2-5) on Saturday.
Sophomore utility Sam Keightley continued his dominant play, scoring 4 goals and recording 5 steals.
Keightley is coming off a five-goal performance against Long Island University.
Harvard scored 3 goals in the third quarter to cut the deficit to one, 8-7.
5 goals from four Spartans in the fourth quarter helped squash Harvard’s late-game push.
Keightley scored 2 goals while senior 2-meter Péter Kolos-Kohári, junior utility Samu Biros and freshman driver Palmer Macbeth each added 1 goal in the fourth.
The Spartans’ defense, led by Keightley’s 5 steals, helped preserve the lead along with freshman driver Aron Sárfalvi and senior driver Mitchell Keightley, who tallied 3 steals each.
This was the second matchup between the Spartans and Harvard this season, following a 14-8 Spartan win on Sept. 5.
“It was a game that we controlled pretty much the whole time,” SJSU head coach Gabor Sarusi said, “but I felt like it was definitely tougher than last week when we played them in California.”
SJSU continues its road trip against No. 5 Fordham at 8 a.m. Sunday in the Bronx, N.Y.
