The San Jose State men’s golf team placed twelfth on the final day of the Vuori Invitational, held at the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club on Tuesday.
The Spartans ended the three rounds of the Invitational with a final score of 899, trailing behind Colorado State University, which had a final score of 883.
A highlight of the Invitational, freshman Joey Allan finished the tournament 22-over par total, and hit a hole-in-one on the seventeenth hole of the final round.
Junior Dominic Lucchesi also led the team’s performance with a team-best four birdies and finishing 8-over 221 to tie for 31st.
Freshman Noah Scavo similarly tied for 36th place with three birdies and his third consecutive round of shooting 74, finishing 9-over. Senior Keshav Mungali had also tied, but for 54th after shooting 13-over total.
Freshman Jackson Lutz had the team’s lowest score of the third round with 1-over par, finishing 21-over total.
Sophomore Christian Maggard hit 2 birdies in the final round to finish 22-over.
“We benefitted greatly from playing such a great golf course,” SJSU head coach John Kennaday said. “Now we’ve got to take what we’ve learned here and apply it to, let’s see, this weekend…”
The team will compete next at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, a 54-hole tournament hosted by the Air Force Academy from Sept. 19-21 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
