San Jose State baseball (13-20, 4-6 MW) had no answer for the dominance of the University of Nevada, Reno Wolfpack (18-12, 7-3 MW) in its 11-1 loss on Friday.

It was a bit of deja vu from the Spartans’ 11-4 loss to Cal Poly on Tuesday. Similar to that game, SJSU fell behind early. After the first inning, the Spartans found themselves down 5-0 and couldn’t recover; the Wolfpack eventually led 7-0 before SJSU’s first run.

After the Spartans scored, the Wolfpack showed no mercy and scored four runs in the eighth inning, ending the game right after.

The Spartans’ only score of the game came in the seventh inning as freshman second baseman Peyton Rowles scored off an RBI double from junior third baseman JC Osorio-Agard

Rowles and Osorio-Agard were the only Spartans to have two hits or more.

Senior pitcher David Thomas struggled mightily on the mound. In four innings played, he gave up seven runs on 11 hits and walked two batters.

Senior pitcher Luca Staiano subbed in for Thomas but couldn’t patch up the cracks, giving up four runs on five hits in just 2.2 innings played.

SJSU’s offense was put to a halt due to the dominant play of Wolfpack senior pitcher Aidan Brainard as allowed just a single run on four hits, and struck out eight batters in the process.

The Spartans will have a short rest before playing the second game of the conference series against Nevada at 2:05 p.m. on Saturday at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.
