San Jose State women’s volleyball (1-2) secured a 3-0 victory over the University of San Francisco at Swenson Gym in Ogden, Utah, on Sunday.
As the match kicked off, the Spartans showed up stronger, playing with determination and skill.
SJSU right-side hitter Tatiana Robinson, who had 10 kills with a .400 hitting percentage and 2 errors, helped score 12 points for SJSU.
The USF Dons continued to push between timeouts. The Dons posted 30 kills and 14 blocks with a .130 hitting percentage in the third set.
Moreover, the Spartans gained more control of the ball, allowing them to achieve better technique and momentum.
“I loved our execution in sets 1 and 2, both serving defensively, blocking, playing; we executed it to a T,” SJSU head coach Todd Kress said. “[We] kinda had a few loose points at the end of set 2; set 3 was a little tight at 16-16, that’s where we had nerves on the first two matches, but this match we finished it off, which is great to see.”
The Spartans stayed composed during the close moments of the match and continued to work together to maintain their lead.
SJSU’s strong defense and consistent attacks helped it close out and secure its first victory of the season.
Following their loss against the Weber State Wildcats on Aug. 29, this win puts the Spartans’ overall record at 1-2 as they kick off the season.
The Spartans will continue to remain fiercely determined as they head back home against the University of Portland Pilots at 3 p.m. Thursday in San Jose, Calif.
