San Jose State softball team welcomed former players back to the field Saturday, Oct.10, for an alumni game at Spartan Softball Complex.
The event was lively and casual, with athletes and alumni chatting around tables before the game.
After warming up, SJSU head coach Tammy Lohmann pitched for alumni during batting practice while the softball team stood in the outfield cheering them on.
“We want to continue and foster, get more connected with the alum,” Lohmann said. “It was fun to watch an athlete that was on the team the first year I was here, to our recent grads that graduated last year.”
The actual game consisted of two innings, where the alumni team and softball team bounced off each other.
“I had a great time. I’m glad the alumni came out and that we got to compete. They showed out,” sophomore infielder Gigi Ortega said.
The game provided an opportunity for current players to connect with one another and reconnect with alumni.
Reina Zermeno graduated in May and is now a part of the softball team’s staff.
During the 2026 season, she became a notable player and had many career accomplishments.
In the 2026 season, Zermeno had 14 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI games. She also finished the season with team-leading stats of .376 avg, .745 slugging percentage, .441 on-base percentage, and 38 RBIs.
“It was a little weird coming back,” Zermeno comments postgame. “But it was so much fun being around everyone in the community and seeing girls I used to play with and then now seeing girls that I coach play. It was all really fun.”
San Jose State softball will continue to grow and prepare for its upcoming season in the spring.
