San Jose State baseball (13-19, 4-5 MW) couldn’t keep up with Cal Poly (18-13, 10-5 BWC) in its 11-4 loss on Tuesday at Baggett Stadium in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Cal Poly kicked it into high gear early and never looked back, leading 7-0 at the end of the third inning.

Junior pitcher Tyler Albanese gave up four runs on three hits while having zero strikeouts in the first inning alone. It would be the only inning Albanese would pitch as he would be pulled right after.

Fifth year pitcher Caden Duke would come in for Albanese and put up a similar statline, giving up three runs on four hits in two innings. However, Duke did manage to strike out four batters in the process.

The Spartans attempted to put together a comeback, scoring three runs in the eighth inning from the likes of redshirt junior third baseman JC Osorio-Agard, sophomore first baseman Rohne Klein and senior right fielder Neil Jansen, but it was too little too late.

There wasn’t much to show from the rest of the Spartans’ offense. Senior right fielder Alex Fernandes and freshman second baseman Peyton Rowles each went 2-for-5 from the plate. Fernandes also logged two RBIs.

Senior shortstop Rocco Caballero finished 2-for-3 from the plate and recorded an RBI from a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

The Spartans have the rest of the week to rest before a three game conference matchup with the University of Nevada Wolfpack. The first game starts at 6:05 p.m. on Friday at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park in Reno, Nev.
