San Jose State University women’s golf team finished second overall after Round 1 of the Pan Pacific University Super Golf League at the Grand Fields Country Club in Mishima City, Japan, on Wednesday.
The Spartans ended the day 3-over, falling behind Nihon University, making them the first among U.S. universities.
Senior Tessa Kremser started off strong, hitting an albatross in Hole 1. SJSU head coach Dana Dormann was there to witness the monumental shot.
“That was really amazing,” said Dormann. “We are super proud of that!”
The albatross helped Kremser end the day at even-par 71, tied for sixth with four others. Sophomore Regina Roldan also ended the day with an even-par 71, joining Kremser in sixth place.
Nihon University’s Junior Nagi Kuramochi ended in first on the player leaderboard, hitting 6-under with 7 birdies. Nihon University is in first with 13-under.
Other notable Spartan performances include sophomore Kleopatra Kozakiewicz,tied for 11th place at 1-over 72; sophomore Lotte Schuhr, tied at 17th at 2-over 72; and senior Moa Andersson, tied for 50th at 8-over 79.
Other U.S. universities participating in this league include Texas Christian University and Long Beach State University.
The Spartans will compete in Round 2 of the Pan Pacific University Super Golf League at the Grand Fields Country Club in Mishima City, Japan, on Thursday.
