The San Jose State women’s soccer team (0-3-2) holds off Cal State Northridge (1-4-1) in a 0-0 draw after a strong performance from it’s defense led by junior goalkeeper Paige Fry.
Fry bolstered the defense by saving 4 shots on goal in the first clean sheet of her career.
SJSU withstood a barrage of shots from CSUN that began immediately after kickoff at the 0:37 mark with a shot on goal to the lower left corner by CSUN senior forward Jordyn Canister.
In the 15th minute, SJSU sophomore midfielder Analise Martins weaved through two defenders and shot on goal before CSUN senior goalkeeper Hayden Mauldin swatted it away.
“Analise took a great shot in the first half, we thought that was going to go in the top right corner, and their goalkeeper made a major play,” SJSU head coach Sonia Curvelo said.
SJSU attempted 9 shots throughout the game, eight of which came from a different player.
Martins led the team with 2 total shots, including 1 on target, followed by junior forward Indigo Sims, senior forward Paige Pineda-Aliamus and freshman forward Abigail Peterman, each with a shot on target.
SJSU ended the game with 4 shots on goal and 4 saves from Fry.
SJSU will look for its first win of the season against Saint Mary’s College of California at noon on Sunday at Spartan Soccer Complex in San Jose, Calif.
