San Jose State track and field put together a well-rounded competition at the Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas, highlighted by a win and several top finishes.
The Spartans showed strength across track and field events, with multiple athletes placed near the top of their respective competitions.
Sophomore Tyson Bonilla led the way by winning the men’s long jump with a mark of 6.88m 22-07.00.
Sophomore Marcel Bovell added a second-place finish in the men’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.98.
SJSU’s sprint relays also produced strong efforts, with the men’s 4×100 team placing third after running 40.24.
The women’s 4×100 relay followed with a fourth-place finish, continuing the team’s consistent showing in sprint events.
Sophomore Nathaniel Guillory added another top performance in the men’s 100 meters, advancing out of his heat with a win before placing fourth overall with 10.60.
“I thought the two 100-meter runners did an excellent job,” Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, Charles Ryan said. “Ultimately, we learned it’s the little things that you’re going to have to do well in order to get the performance you want.”
The Spartans also saw success in the hurdles, where freshman Julius Baker secured a third-place finish in the 110 hurdles, followed just behind by freshman Hayden Browne in fourth place.
In the field events, graduate student Audrey McElmurry recorded a top-four finish in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 12.28 meters (40-03.50).
The meet reflected steady progress for SJSU as the team continues through the outdoor season.
SJSU returns to action April 16-18 in Azusa, Calif. and at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Mt Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif.
