SJSU women’s tennis beats Air Force away from home

San Jose State’s women’s tennis team (14-1, 5-0 MW) came out victorious in Colorado Friday as they beat Air Force Academy (7-10, 1-3 MW) 4-3.

They improve to 14-1 for the season and are riding a ten-game winning streak.

The matchups Friday were close, two matches had three sets and another match got an extended set.

Senior Olaya Bances Iglesias had a strong performance in particular, winning 22  singles and doubles games combined.

Senior Carla Urchoeguia won 6-1, 6-3, freshman Soledad Fayos Capilla won 7-5, 7-6 (7-5), with Bances Iglesias winning 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 to secure SJSU’s singles competition victory.

Sophomore Cheuk Ying Shek and Urchoeguia earned a 6-3 win for the doubles along with Emma Fantousis and Fayos Capilla winning 7-6 (7-5).

Next, the Spartans face the Lobos Sunday at 10:00 a.m. in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
