San Jose State’s gymnastics season has come to an end after competing against Stanford at the NCAA Regionals on Wednesday afternoon in Seattle at the Alaska Airlines Arena.

The Cardinal finished with a 196.425 while the Spartans tallied a 195.150. It was a new school team regional record for SJSU.

“For the first three rotations, our team was on fire and we were neck to neck and we knew it was going to come down to the last event,” said SJSU head coach Joanne Bowers after the meet.”

Bowers also alluded to “nerves” and “youth” as part of the reason why SJSU couldn’t match Stanford’s scores in the end.

This is the eighth time the Spartans’ gymnastics program has qualified for a regional meet as it was  ranked No. 34 in the country.

Jada Mazury came out strong, earning herself a first-place spot on bars and her sixth time this season scoring a 9.900 or higher. Mazury also tied for first place on her floor routine accomplishing her fourth 9.900 this season on the floor.

Emma Milne took second place on beam scoring a 9.850.

While things may be over for most of the team, four Spartans moved  forward to compete in the second round of the NCAA Regionals Thursday.

Mazury and Lauren Macpherson performed in the all-around, Madison Kirch advanced as a vault specialist and Emma Milne as a beam specialist.

The team’s goal for next season is to aim for the top 32 and make it back to the NCAA Regionals.
