San Jose State has found its new athletic director: Jefferey Konya.
Succeeding Marie Tuite, Konya becomes the fifteenth athletic director in SJSU history. He will begin his tenure on July 12.
“I am incredibly honored to be selected to lead the Spartans,” said Konya. “I am truly inspired by President Papazian’s vision for San José State University. I am excited by the role athletics can play in furthering that vision.”
Konya has more than two decades of experience in collegiate athletics. His athletic administration career began at the University of Iowa in 1996. Konya has since worked at the University of South Dakota, Bucknell University, the University of Texas San Antonio, and the University of Memphis, SMU and Oakland University.
The Princeton alumnus’ is a two-time Under Armour NACDA Athletics Director of the Year (2016-17, 2020-21) for his work at Oakland University and Northeastern University.
Konya’s hiring marks the conclusion of a nationwide talent search led by President Papazian, who named a search committee to research, interview and evaluate a diverse and innovative group of collegiate athletics administrators.
