San Jose State women’s volleyball (5-11, 0-5 MW) traveled to the University of Nevada (14-3, 4-1 MW) to play a Tuesday night game where the Spartans took their sixth loss in a row (3-2).
The Spartans got out to a fast start scoring for the team with a 3-1 lead over the Wolf Pack.
Outside hitters freshman Makayla Lewis recorded two service aces and senior Fernanda Vido delivered three kills for the Spartans.
SJSU gained momentum and won their first set 25-16.
Following a 25-18 second set win, the Spartans took a commanding 2-0 lead.
Sophomore setter Mamie Girard successfully delivered two service aces for SJSU.
The Spartans delivered aggressive serves, 15 kills and 11 digs that led them to a big lead.
Nevada wasn’t able to capitalize on the Spartans mistakes.
Picking up right where they left off, SJSU recorded the first few points for the team.
Both teams tussled points back-and-forth until the Wolf Pack gained a four-point lead a few minutes into the set.
A final SJSU push was not enough as Nevada retained its lead and ended the third set 20-25.
The Wolf Pack opened up the fourth set with a slight lead and the Spartans weren’t able to catch up much after that.
Nevada went to close out the set 25-15 with the Spartans trailing behind.
For the fifth and final set, SJSU hit the reset button and had a lead until Nevada caught up with their right side attacks.
It was a pure dog fight, but ultimately Nevada finished SJSU off 15-13, sending the Spartan’s back home with another loss.
SJSU returns to its home court for a Saturday match-up against Air Force at 2 p.m.
