San Jose State (3-19, 0-10 MW) suffered its 13th-consecutive loss on Saturday when it fell 105-57 to Boise State (11-13, 6-5 MW). The 48-point margin is the largest defeat suffered by the Spartans since a 89-39 loss to Stanford on Dec. 10, 1988.

The Broncos opened the game with an aerial assault on the basket. They scored the first 15 points of the game with five 3-pointers, setting the tone for what would be a terrific performance from behind the arc. They manipulated SJSU’s zone defense with ease, and nailed down wide open shots.

Boise State would finish the half with eight threes, taking advantage of six turnovers from the Spartans. The Broncos shot 54 percent, while holding SJSU to 37.9 percent.

Even after a dominant first half, they kept their foot on the gas pedal in the final 20 minutes. Boise State outscored the Spartans by 30 in the final period, handing them their largest loss of the season.

16 total turnovers by SJSU led to 27 points for the Broncos. The Spartan offense couldn’t get a rhythm going, and unforced mistakes were plentiful.

They couldn’t keep up with the high-powered BSU attack. They converted on just 37 percent of their shot attempts, and were 35 percent from three. Par for the course of the SJSU season, it was 10-18 from the free-throw line.

Sophomore guard Derrick Alston put on an offensive clinic against the Spartans, posting season highs in points with 33 and assists, with four. He unguardable, shooting 12-15 from the field, and 5-7 from three.

Michael Steadman was the Spartans’ leading scorer, putting up 16 points on an impressive 6-11 shooting performance.

The Spartans remain winless in the MW following the loss, and ride a 13-game losing streak. They’ll look to get on track on Wednesday when they take on New Mexico in Albuquerque at 6 p.m.
