Men’s soccer looks for its second win against Dons

San Jose State men’s soccer team will kick off its two-game homestand as it welcomes the University of San Francisco for a Monday-night matchup.

Since the 2012 season, the Spartans (1-3-1) have faced the Dons (2-1-1) four times and have dropped all four matches. The most recent was a 5-2 loss last season in San Francisco.

The Spartans have started off the season rocky, but sophomore defender Omar Lemus has given the team hope. Lemus scored both goals against Sacramento State earlier this season and has proven that he is a driving force in the team’s offense.

Although senior goalkeeper Alex Clewis had the game of his collegiate career with 11 saves against Stanford, he gave up five goals in the last game against Saint Mary’s College and doubled his goals allowed on the season.

The Dons have started the season off well considering their opponents. The team beat No. 8 UCLA 1-0 to grab their second win and were able to hold Stanford’s powerful offense to only two goals.

USF seniors Sean Bowman and Santiago Digiuseppe are both credited with two goals each on the season. One of Bowman’s came in minute 51 of the Bruins game to give them the win.

Throughout the Dons’ for games, they have only allowed five goals, which means the Spartans will need to attack early to try to get the win.

Kick off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on the Spartan Soccer Field.
