Women’s golf travels to Minnesota for the first tournament of the season

San Jose State women’s golf will visit Woodbury, Minn. for the two-day Minnesota Invitational starting on Monday.

This is SJSU’s first time participating in the 15-team Invitational.

The Spartans are in for a long day as they will be shooting 36 holes on the first day of the invite.

“It feels good getting back into rhythm,” senior Ysabel Tran said. “It feels like home.”

The team has been working hard to start off the season strong in Minnesota. SJSU and University of San Francisco will be the only two teams competing from the West Coast.

“We’re working on being a little more precise with how we’re practicing and diving more into our statistics,” Head Coach Dana Dormann said.

This tournament is the first opportunity the Spartans have to show if they have made the changes that they have been practicing.

The Spartans are going into their first tournament with four seniors who have been leading the team consistently in the off season.

“Franziska is out to a good start,” said Dormann. “She’s leading our qualifying for the first tournament right now.”

It will be interesting to see how not only the team shows out for its first performance, but also how competitive they can be with teams from across the country.

The Spartans will finish out the tournament on Tuesday.
