Men’s soccer aim for first victory against Aggies

San Jose State men’s soccer heads on the road to face UC Davis on Friday for its third game of the season.

The Spartans (0-1-1) are looking for their first victory against the No. 60 ranked Aggies (1-0-1) after tying with No. 1 Stanford and losing to Cal State Northridge.

As a common early-season opponent, the two teams are familiar with each other.

SJSU leads the all-time series 4-2-1. Last season, the Spartans defeated the Aggies 3-2.

In 2016, both teams put up a tough fight and finished 0-0 in double overtime. The last time UC Davis beat SJSU was back in 2010.

An Aggie player to keep an eye on is junior forward Adam Mickelson. He has the team’s lone goal on the season, which was scored in a 1-0 win over Creighton.

SJSU has been playing its last two games with high intensity, attempting goals frequently throughout the entire game.

Senior goalkeeper Alex Clewis started the season off strong with 11 saves at Stanford, and did not allow a goal until the 72nd minute against CSUN. He has the potential to make this game a shutout.

If the Spartans can execute offensively, they can clinch their first win of the season.

The ball kicks off at 2:30 p.m.
