San Jose State women’s tennis (8-13, 1-10 MW) earned a 4-1 win over Fresno State (8-14, 1-9 MW) on Friday, setting the tone early in doubles play.

The Spartans claimed wins at No. 1 and No. 3, taking the opening point.

Sophomores Emma Fantousis and Soledad Fayos Capilla captured a 6-2 victory, while sophomores Katarina Brajovic and Cristina Mateos Losada added another 6-2 win to give SJSU a 1-0 lead.

The Spartans carried that momentum into singles play, where they won three of four completed matches to secure the victory.

Fantousis added a straight-set win at No. 2 singles, while freshman Camila Celis produced a dominant 6-0 second set in her victory at No. 5.

Mateos Losada extended the Spartans’ lead with a comeback win at No. 6 singles, bouncing back after dropping the opening set.

Her performance helped SJSU maintain its control throughout the match.

The Bulldogs picked up their only point at No. 4 singles, but the Spartans built enough of a separation to secure the outcome in their favor.

With other courts still in progress, SJSU had secured the four points it needed to clinch the match.

The Spartans will now shift their focus to the Mountain West Tournament starting Wednesday at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
