San Jose State men’s golf finished 11th at the 79th Western Intercollegiate with a steady effort against a competitive field.
The Spartans were led by senior Ivan Barahona, who delivered the team’s top performance with a seventh-place finish overall at 5-under par.
Barahona’s round of 65 highlighted his day as he paced San Jose State and remained among the tournament’s top contenders.
“65 on the last day of the Western typically goes places, that’s a beautiful round.” SJSU head coach John Kennedy said. “I’m thrilled for him and very proud of him.”
Senior Avinash Iyer followed with a solid showing, finishing 18th overall at 1-under-par to give the Spartans another top 20 result.
Senior Xuan Luo placed 55th to add to the team score, while junior Keshav Mungali finished 59th in the field.
Redshirt sophomore Itai Cohen recorded a 65th place finish and senior Jed Dy came in 71st as the Spartans rounded out their lineup.
Freshman Christian Maggard finished 87th to complete San Jose State’s scoring group.
“We hope to create a lifetime of memories here… we hope as a team and a University to be able to add to that and make it special for everybody involved, that’s the goal.” Kennaday said.
SJSU continues its spring schedule, looking to build on its performance on May 3-5 at the Mountain West Championship at the Omni Tucson National Resort in Tucson, Ariz.
