It was a hit parade for San Jose State baseball (15-21, 5-7 MW) in its 10-7 win over the Cal Berkeley Golden Bears (18-17, 4-11 ACC) on Wednesday night at Stu Gordon Stadium in Berkeley, Calif.

Four different innings with at least two runs scored for the Spartans’ offense set the tone for the game.

Senior left fielder Jake McCoy had a large impact, scoring three runs on two hits with two RBIs and a solo home run in the fifth inning. The homer brings him up to nine on the season, which leads the team.

Senior shortstop Rocco Caballero also added a home run of his own in the seventh inning to help keep the Spartans’ lead for good. It was his second home run of the season.

Freshman second baseman Peyton Rowles’ consistent play continued in this game, finishing 3-for-6 from the plate with a run scored.

Another Spartan continuing to play well during the season is fifth-year pitcher Caden Duke, who recorded his third win of the season after pitching a single inning and giving up only one hit, zero runs and striking out one batter.

The game was put into the hands of senior pitcher EJ McGrew in the eighth inning. He gave up two hits, one run and struck out three batters, earning  his second save of the season.

SJSU currently sits in a tie with UNLV, with the Rebels having the tiebreaker, for the final spot in the Mountain West Tournament as the team enters the final month of the regular season.

The Spartans will look to make a push up the conference standings over the next month with upcoming matchups against top Mountain West teams like Air Force and San Diego State.

Coming up for the Spartans, is a two-game non-conference series against the Fresno State Bulldogs. The first game will be played at 6 p.m. on Friday at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium in Fresno, Calif.
