San Jose State softball (11-20, 3-5 MW) earned a strong 5–2 victory over the University of Nevada in Reno, California, at Christina M. Hixson Softball Park, using timely hitting and disciplined defense to secure the win.
SJSU lost 10-4 last night to the Wolf Pack but showed resilience today.
The Spartans took control of the game early, plating two runs in the third inning before adding three more in the fourth, creating a lead they would not relinquish.
Sophomore utility player Taylor Chillingworth played a major role in driving in runs, finishing the game with three RBIs and providing the clutch hitting needed to build and extend the lead.
Nevada struggled defensively, committing five errors throughout the game, and SJSU took full advantage.
The Spartans remained composed and executed effectively, turning defensive miscues into scoring opportunities that ultimately made the difference on the scoreboard.
Defensively, SJSU backed up its offense with a strong showing in the field, limiting Nevada’s scoring chances and maintaining control of the game after taking the lead.
The combination of opportunistic hitting, aggressive base running, and steady defense allowed the Spartans to dictate the pace of play.
With the win, SJSU demonstrated resilience and execution on both sides of the ball, showcasing their ability to capitalize on opponents’ mistakes while maintaining defensive stability to close out the game.
The Spartans will stay at Reno to take on the Wolfpack one last time at 12 p.m. tomorrow to hope to come out on top again..
