University of Nevada, Las Vegas (16-10, 1-3 MW) delivered a dominant performance Friday night, defeating San Jose State baseball (11-14, 2-2 MW) 18–7 at Earl E. Wilson Stadium in Las Vegas.

The Spartans struggled to keep pace early, but the game ultimately turned in the fourth inning when UNLV erupted for 11 runs.

SJSU managed just two runs in that same frame, and the deficit proved too large to overcome the rest of the way.

Head Coach, Brad Sanfilippo said, “We just didn’t play very well tonight, back tomorrow and show up with some energy and effort and try to get one back.”

Despite the loss, the Spartans found some offensive bright spots.

Freshman infielder Peyton Rowles led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. His performance provided a spark for SJSU’s offense, which showed flashes of productivity but lacked consistency against UNLV’s pitching staff.

Overall, SJSU was outhit 18-9, a key factor in the lopsided result.

The Rebels’ ability to generate offense throughout the lineup, combined with their explosive fourth inning, put constant pressure on the Spartans’ pitching and defense.

UNLV capitalized on scoring opportunities and maintained control of the game from the middle innings on, preventing any serious comeback attempt by SJSU.

While the Spartans continued to compete offensively, they were unable to string together enough hits to chip away at the deficit.

SJSU will look to regroup after the tough loss and focus on limiting big innings moving into tomorrow’s matchup against the Rebels.

Cleaning up pitching and defensive execution will be crucial as the Spartans aim to bounce back in the remainder of the series.
