San Jose State women’s tennis (7-8, 0-5 MW) fell 4-3 to Colorado State (5-11, 1-4 MW) on Friday in a match that came down to No. 3 singles in a third-set tiebreak.

The Spartans took an early lead by claiming the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.

Sophomores Cristina Mateos Losada and Soledad Fayos Capilla won 6-2, while sophomore Katarina Brajovic and freshman Camila Celis secured a 7-5 victory, giving SJSU a 1-0 advantage and early momentum.

The Rams took over in singles play, winning four of six matches to take control of the game.

They earned victories at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5, pushing the match into a tightly competitive battle, landing on the final court.

SJSU stayed within reach behind a straight-set victory from junior Duru Durgun at No. 1 singles and a win from Mateos Losada at No. 6, which kept the score level and built up a decisive final match.

With the score tied 3-3, the results relied on No. 3 singles between sophomore Emma Fantousis and the Rams’ junior Sorcha Caves

After splitting the first two sets, the match was decided in a tight third-set tiebreak, where Caves pulled out a win over Fantousis 7-6 (8) to clinch the match for the Rams.

Despite securing an early advantage with the doubles point, the Spartans were not able to hold off the Rams in a back-and-forth match that resulted in the final point.

The Spartans will face the University of Wyoming at 10 a.m. on Sunday in Laramie, Wyoming.
