Spartan Standouts take big points at the West Coast Relays

San Jose State Track and Field delivered a standout performance at the West Coast Relays in Clovis, California, highlighted by multiple first-place finishes and strong team momentum. 

Leading the way was senior Zoe Ewell, who won the women’s 100-meter dash with an impressive showing, reinforcing her status as one of the top sprinters in the field. 

Her victory set the tone for a successful meet for the Spartans.

The women’s 4×100-meter relay team continued the dominance on the track, securing first place with a time of 44.73 seconds. 

The winning squad featured Ewell, junior Nakai Johnson, junior Sharli’e McCuller, junior Leila Champion, and freshman Vivienne Magu, combining speed and precision throughout the race. 

Their performance showcased smooth baton exchanges and strong chemistry, key factors in their first-place finish.

Not to be outdone, the men’s 4×100-meter relay team also claimed a first-place finish, clocking in at 40.43. 

The team consisted of senior Jared Jones, freshman Dontae Smith, freshman Spencer Gray, and freshman David Botts

Their race demonstrated explosive acceleration and consistency, with each leg contributing to a clean and powerful performance that secured the victory.

Overall, the meet served as a strong statement for SJSU as they continue their season. 

With key athletes stepping up in high-pressure moments and relay squads executing at a high level, the Spartans showed they are building momentum. 

The combination of individual excellence and team success highlights their depth and potential as they prepare for upcoming championship competitions.

The Spartans will compete in the Brutus Hamilton Invitational on Friday in Berkeley, Calif.
