San Jose State women’s tennis (6-4, 0-1 MW) fell short in a 4-0 loss against Grand Canyon University (7-6, 1-0 MW) on Friday morning from the GCU Tennis Facility for its conference opener.
Freshman Camila Celis, and sophomore Katarina Brajovic earned the only win for the Spartans on court three 6-3.
Despite this, they still lost the point as junior Duru Durgen, and Emma Fantousis lost their doubles game 6-2, alongside sophomore pair Soledad Fayos Capilla, and Cristina Mateos Losada who also fell shy 6-4.
As for the singles, Fayos Capilla lost, 6-3, 6-0 on court two.
Freshman Tara Mihaljevic also fell short, losing 6-4, 6-2.
Then to finish off the singles action, on court five Celis lost her singles match 7-5, 6-2 to round off the action.
Matches featuring junior Duru Durgun and Cristina Mateos Losada were left unfinished once Grand Canyon clinched the fourth point.
Durgun trailed 6-4, 3-2, while Mateos Losada also trailed 7-5, 2-5 before play was halted.
The Spartans will return to action at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Aztec Tennis Center to face off against San Diego State University.
