With the annual spring game approaching around the corner for San Jose State football, the team will hold a scrimmage for fans to get a peak of the 2025 team.

The game will allow for the offense and defense to showcase plays against each other.

“I think the biggest thing is making good decisions and good throws just trying to help my team win offensively and give our defense a challenge,” SJSU quarterback Walker Eget said.

Eget was named the starting quarterback of the 2025 season after finishing last season with 2,504 passing yards throwing for 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions with a 3-4 record as a starter eventually taking the number one spot from former San Jose State quarterback Emmett Brown.

Spartans wide receiver Matthew Coleman is excited to show the crowd his fit and making plays for the offense while viewing the game as an opportunity for him to learn.

“I say my YAC ability to run out and catch,” Coleman said. “That’s a big coaching point or stat that is emphasized.”

In the 2024 season, Coleman averaged 11.8 receiving yards per game along with racking up 401 total receiving yards, 34 receptions and two touchdowns.

He added that he is looking forward to having more production in the offense and expanding creations in his routes.

SJSU head coach Ken Niumatalolo said he strongly believes that the spring game will benefit future practices on both sides of the ball and will use every practice going forward to strengthen the team.

Besides focusing on improving the team, Niumatalolo also said he is hoping to see a high turnout for the upcoming spring game this year.

“The more the merrier and we are trying to do some things to get the fans involved and we definitely want to do a better job of that of reaching out to a community and so hopefully we get a good turnover,” Niumatalolo said.

The Spartans will host the game on April 26 at 1 p.m. at CEFCU Stadium.
