SJSU softball (18-23, 5-10 MW) could not get the offensive engine going as they would lose the game to UNLV (20-22, 3-12 MW) 2-1 on Friday. This loss continues the Spartan’s three game losing streak.

Both sides would struggle to score as seven innings would go by without a single team scoring. The game would go the ninth inning while still having a 0-0 score.

Senior pitcher Mia Reynolds and the defense would hold on for dear life as she would have three strikeouts this game. The offense, despite having 10 hits compared to UNLV’s six hits, wouldn’t be able to capitalize on any opportunities.

At the top of the ninth inning, the Spartans would finally break through as senior Aubrie Thomas would get an RBI to make it 1-0.

Unfortunately, San Jose State’s defense would fall apart at the worst possible time as it would give up two runs in the bottom of the ninth to lose the game at the very end.

“It’s just a hard loss tonight, losing in the ninth inning,” head coach Tammy Lohmann said. “We had a lot of opportunities. We just didn’t capitalize on those opportunities.”

The Spartans will face UNLV again on Saturday in Las Vegas and they hope to be able to have a more fiery match.
