San Jose State softball (14-23, 3-10 MW) held on for a 5-4 victory in a non-conference matchup against the Saint Mary’s Gaels (23-16, 3-1 WCC).

This ended its season series tied at 1-1 after Saint Mary’s defeated San Jose 5-3 during the NorCal Kickoff Tournament.

Pitcher Lacie Ham held on for her fifth win of the season after a late rally from the Gaels and struck out the final batter in a bases loaded jam. This win gets Ham back over .500 who has been a bright spot for the Spartans pitching thus far this season.

Graduate student Korie Thomas continues to stay hot at the plate going 2-for-2 and driving in a run for the Spartans. This is Thomas’ second-straight game with two hits and a RBI.

Another key player who’s been hot of late is junior Taylor Squires continues to find a way to get on base for San Jose. Squires went 1-for-3 on the afternoon, while scoring runs for the Spartans. Squires is also coming off a strong outing from Sunday’s matchup where she went 2-for-4 and scoring two runs.

A key factor in the Spartans victory is they allowed no errors in their victory an area of the game where they have struggled all season. This is crucial as San Jose State will look to build off this strong performance.

San Jose State will play its next game at 10 a.m. Friday as it will take on the Colorado State Rams in conference play.
