San Jose State (13-23, 3-10 MW) lost the lead with one out remaining in the game losing 9-8 to San Diego State (26-14,13-3 MW).

In a game where hitting was on full display, a wild pitch by junior Mia Reynolds that would score two Aztec runners would define the Spartans game.

The Spartans had a nine-hit day and got their eight runs in two innings. Five runs scoring in the second and three in the fourth. San Jose and San Diego were neck-and-neck throughout the entire game scoring in the exact same innings and remained tied until the final inning.

Junior Taylor Squires was a key factor for San Jose State in this matchup where she went 2-for-4 recording two runs and two RBIs. Squires was one of two Spartan batters that had multiple hits in the game as graduate student Korie Thomas also had a couple of hits to go along with her RBI.

“We’re making adjustments with each game and getting better,” Squires said. “In no time we’ll be able to come up with a game-winning shot.”

This is San Jose’s second straight loss by one run after losing to San Diego State 2-1 in Friday’s doubleheader. San Jose State continues to look for ways to close out games late.

“There’s a lot of promise left for the season,” SJSU head coach Tammy Lohmann said. “The absolute capability across the board and every aspect of the game is there and the opportunity to compete and play in these games.”

San Jose State will play its next game in a non-conference matchup at 3 p.m. Wednesday against the Saint Mary’s Gaels.
