SJSU track and field has spectacular performances at two invitationals

San Jose State track and field had quite a showing at the Tom Jones Invitational at James G. Pressly Stadium, Percy Beard Track in Gainesville, Fla.

The first day of the invitational on Friday had some Spartans achieving personal best performances.

Sophomore Eve Divinity finished in third place in the women’s long jump with a jump of 6.20 meters, a season best for her.

Sophomore Alyssa Bean finished in sixth place in the women’s 200-meter with a time of 23.95 seconds, a personal best for her.

In the same race, senior Selena Arjona-Alcazar also got a personal best of 24.08 seconds, finishing in sixth place.

In the second day of the invitational, three Spartans had top-five finishes. The events took place on Saturday.

Senior Micah Hairston finished the men’s 110-meter hurdles in second place with a time of 13.99 seconds, a season best for him.

Freshman Malachi Snow finished the men’s 110-meter hurdles invite in second place with a time of 13.55 seconds.

In that same race, sophomore Demaris Waters finished in fifth place with a time of 13.63 seconds, a season best for him.

Junior Lina Schubert finished the women’s high jump in a six-way tie for eighth place with a 1.63 score, a season best for her.

“We had a great two days of competition out here at the Tom Jones Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.,” SJSU director of track and field Charles Ryan said in a video posted to the SJSU Athletics website.

The Spartans also had some good performances in the Chuck Buettner Twilight that took place Friday and Saturday. 

The most notable is junior Isaiah Gilmore winning the men’s 200-meter dash with a time of 22.27 seconds.

Freshman Nathan Lau recorded a third-place finish in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.45.

The Spartans will head to Clovis, Calif. for the Fresno State Invitational on April 26-27. It will be their final meet before the Mountain West Championships.
