SJSU women’s soccer lost its first game of Mountain West play on the road against the University of Nevada in a 2-0 loss on Sunday afternoon.

The Wolfpack (4-4-5, 2-1-1 MW) dictated the tempo from the jump, staying on the attack and pressuring the Spartan (3-4-5, 1-1-2 MW) defense.

The Spartans had one shot on goal through the first 30 minutes. SJSU finished the half with three in total, being the aggressor in the last parts of the first half.

Just 13 minutes into the game, Nevada sophomore Maddie Benson was able to secure her first goal of the season. Fellow sophomore Emily Rich assisted with a remarkable set up.

In the first three minutes of the half, SJSU goalie Bente Pernot passed up a long-range shot by Nevada forward Trinity Sandridge.

In the second half, the Spartans retaliated with 11 shots. One hit the top goal post on the 68 mark. The Wolfpack got 4 shots in, playing defense in the remainder of the game.

The loss snapped an impressive five-game unbeaten streak to finish off the tour of Nevada, splitting games between the UNLV Rebels and Wolfpack.

“We had a really slow start to the game that cost us, we came out with a lot of energy, we just didn’t match that in the first 15 minutes of the game,” said head coach Tina Estrada.

SJSU’s next match will be back at home against the University of Wyoming on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
