SJSU men’s soccer(4-3-4, 1-0-1 WAC) tied it up 1-1 against Utah Valley (1-5-4, 0-1-1 WAC) in their second conference matchup of the season.

A David versus Goliath-esque match in size where the Spartan’s offense was not able to break through the Wolverine’s big defense.

The only ball that touched the back of the net came off the foot of sophomore Angel Iniguez in the third minute of the match, his fifth goal on the season.

Assisting Iniguez were senior Isaac Lomeli and junior Emiliano Corona.

Iniguez expresses that this was a “team goal,” and it was not just himself.

The Wolverines responded to this goal with one of their own but only coming in at the 33rd minute. The goal was scored by junior Kendi Bellini with an assist from junior Nik Kizerian.

At halftime, the score was 1-1 which remained untouched. With the referee blowing the whistle at the 90th minute, the match was over and ended knotted up at 1-1.

“We got a point we would have liked three,” said head coach Simon Tobin. “I’m happy with a point but because I think it could have gone the other way.”

At the end of the first half, coach Tobin had put in four freshmen and six sophomores on the pitch and said “the future is bright,” when commenting on his young players.

SJSU will next hit the road and visit the UNLV Rebels on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7:00 p.m.
