SJSU women’s tennis (8-10 overall, 3-4 MW) silenced the New Mexico Lobos (10-6 overall, 3-4 MW) with a 4-2 win that ceased its four-game losing streak against multiple Mountain West opponents.

SJSU won the doubles point for the first time since its 4-1 win against Utah State on March 25.

Junior Carolina Millan and fifth-year Alba Pedrero Galindo graced court one again, putting their harmonious partnership on display with a 6-3 win. They clinched the doubles point for the team and added to their 4-4 record together.

However, despite the doubles point, the team had to endure numerous nail-biting matches.

Sophomore Olaya Bances Iglesias made the team proud by sealing the deal in her game-winning match (6-7, 6-1, 6-1). Although she played the least singles matches this season (5-4), her confident consistency was a major reason why the Spartans were able to defeat the Lobos.

Junior Rozalina Youseva also won her match with enthusiasm (6-0, 7-5). Regardless of a mishap involving a referee being absent mid-match, Youseva was still a force to be reckoned with. This dub is another tally to her 13-6 singles record.

This gratifying and intense three-hour match brought confidence to the team, who are looking forward to their last few opponents before the Mountain West Championship in late April.

Until then, the team will celebrate Senior Day tomorrow at 2 p.m. by honoring seniors Pedrero Galindo, Lara Marco Mas, and Raquel Villan Pereira. SJSU women’s tennis will face Air Force (10-8 overall, 6-1 MW), a team that claims the best record in the Mountain West.
