SJSU women’s tennis (7-9, 2-3 MW) tallied up its third loss in a row against Fresno State (9-9 overall, 3-3 MW). The Spartans were quickly overwhelmed by the Bulldogs, resulting in a 4-1 disappointment.

Fresno State is the team’s fifth Mountain West matchup this season. After succumbing to both Colorado State (MW 2-2) and Wyoming (MW 4-0) last week, it was advantageous for the team to pick up another conference win to prepare for the Mountain West Championship later this month.

However, SJSU was unable to bounce back from last week’s losses.

The team did not win a single doubles match in this game. This left them without the edge and instead the pressure to outperform Fresno State in singles. Fresno State came fresh off of a win, but SJSU’s retaliation was not enough to gain a lead.

Today’s doubles matches featured a more diverse arrangement of teams; fifth-year Alba Pedrero Galindo and junior Irena Muradyan (2-3 record) and junior Raquel Villan Pereira and senior Lara Marco Mas (0-3 record) graced the courts but both were defeated 1-6 early in their respective matches.

Although the doubles teams delivered an upsetting performance, it was important for this year’s seniors to share the court together as much as possible before their last hurrah.

The only dub from today came from junior Jovana Babic‘s powerful match that closed with a tiebreaker (6-3, 7-5). Babic has a 9-4 record in singles matches.

Pedrero Galindo has been struggling as of late in singles, losing her match (4-6, 4-6). She has been unable to gain some momentum in past games, leaving her with six singles losses in a row.

Both Muradyan and junior Carolina Millan had won three singles matches in a row. Unfortunately, their records were not enough to change the turn of events. Muradyan’s loss clinched the game for Fresno State and pushed SJSU down to a .438 winning percentage.

SJSU women’s tennis will resume its road trip against the University of Nevada wolfpack (6-7, 1-4 MW) on April 8 at 10 a.m.
