While a close ball game, San Jose State women’s soccer (6-7, 3-2 MWC) squeaked out a 2-1 win against Boise State University (7-5-1, 1-3-1 MWC).
The Spartans and Broncos had a tough first period as both teams constantly made fouls delaying their chances of even scoring during this round.
It was a toss-up to see who could score but to no avail, neither team scored by the end of the first period.
It wasn’t until the second period when things started to heat up for both teams, as each team found its stride.
Boise State opened the scoring with their first goal kicked in by freshman forward/midfielder Sophie Drown.
It was at this moment that SJSU began to turn things around for themselves and tightened up defensively, as the Broncos continued their momentum with their first goal and their many attempted shots on goal.
Thankfully before the end of the second period, the Spartans managed to score their first goal thanks to midfielder sophomore Cynthia Flores with an assist by midfielder freshman Taylor Phillips
It was a scary moment for both teams as Boise committed a foul giving SJSU a chance to score, sooner after they themselves committed a foul that gave the Broncos an opportunity to secure the lead.
Within 30 seconds of fouling, the Spartans managed to take the ball back from the Broncos and score a goal by Phillips ending the game, 2-1.
After a hard-fought win, SJSU will look to keep the momentum they have against Utah State University on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 12 p.m. in Logan, Utah.
