San Jose State men’s soccer (4-5-1, 2-1-0 WAC) heads up to Orem, Utah to take on the Utah Valley University Wolverines (5-1-2, 2-0-0 WAC).

The Spartans are getting the ball rolling, as they are a little over the halfway point in the season. They’ve won back-to-back matches after losing four straight games.

The offense showed up in a big way in each of their last two matches, scoring a combined five goals.

One important aspect of those victories was being able to create shot opportunities and capitalize on them, in the wins against Dixie State and UNLV the Spartans had 37 shot attempts with 18 of those shots on goal.

Senior defender Jamal Adam has stepped up recently for SJSU, as he scored goals in both victories last week, pushing his season goal total to three.

This season, Adam has already surpassed his career-high in goals which was previously one, and he is likely to surpass his career-high in games played (13) with eight games left to go in the season.

After receiving honorable mention All-WAC honors for the 2020-2021 season, junior goalkeeper David Sweeney has not disappointed this season, as he was selected as the WAC Defensive Player of The Week for his efforts in last week’s victories, securing four saves against Dixie State and 11 against UNLV.

While the Spartans look to keep their momentum rolling, they’ll be facing up against a formidable opponent in Utah Valley.

The Wolverines are coming off of a 2-1 victory last Sunday against the University of the Incarnate Word.

Utah Valley has won four of their last six matches and has not been shut out since their double-overtime battle against Northwestern University that resulted in a tie on Sept. 9.

The Spartans will be looking to push their win streak to three against the Wolverines tonight at 7 p.m. and it will be streamed on ESPN+.
