Tennis: Spartans try their luck in Saint Patrick’s week matchup against Gaels

At the end of their rainbow the Spartans will be looking for a seventh straight win.

The San Jose State women’s tennis team (6-0) looks to stay perfect as it takes on Saint Mary’s College of California (2-3) on Saturday. 

The Spartans steamroll into the matchup with an undefeated record. Freshmen Irena Muradyan and Jovana Babic have both been the main stables in the singles matchups, Muradyan is 6-0 this season while Babic is 4-0. 

In the doubles category, Muradyan and graduate student Tamara Culibrk have a record of 3-1. The duo of junior Alba Pedrero and sophomore Lara Marco Mas also have a 3-3 record this season. 

The Spartans are coming off a 5-2 win against the University of the Pacific on March 12. 

Their game against Grand Canyon University that was scheduled on March 13 was canceled.

The Gaels have a record of 2-3 as they attempt to get their record back to .500. 

Their last game was a defeat against Stanford on March 11 where they lost by a score of 6-1. 

Senior Mariia Kozyreva leads the team in singles matchups with an undefeated record of 4-0 while junior Jordan Harris is second on the team with a 2-1 record.

In regards to doubles, freshman Jocelyn Massey and sophomore Aubane Ville lead the team together at 3-1 record.

The Spartans are looking to take advantage of a struggling Saint Mary’s team. 

The game will start noon Saturday at the Spartan Tennis Complex.
