SJSU women’s volleyball preps for two games at UNLV

San Jose State women’s volleyball (4-6) will be heading to Sin City to face off against the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (7-0) Friday and Saturday.

The Spartans are coming off a series split against reigning Mountain West champions Colorado State (3-2) last week.

SJSU has been inconsistent this season, going from losing three consecutive games in a row to having two consecutive wins only to lose it in their first game against the Rams.

The Spartans have to be on the lookout for the Rebels as they’re on a seven-game win streak. l

Their opponents are a strong offensive team, recording an average of 14.5 kills per set compared to only 12.9 for SJSU.

The Spartans do have a slight advantage defensively, recording a total of 60 in blocks compared to 55 for UNLV.

The Rebels have veterans like senior middle blocker Macy Smith, who has a total of 265 kills and 126 block assists in her career at UNLV

Her balance of offense and defense makes Smith a player to look out for Friday.

SJSU has veterans of its own including junior mid blocker Haylee Nelson, who has a total of 657 kills and 108 assists throughout her career.

The Spartans have a tough battle ahead as they try to take down Mountain West-leading Rebels, who are the only undefeated team left in the conference.

Friday’s and Saturday’s games will both start at 6:30 P.M. and will be broadcasted on the Mountain West Network.
