Spartans look to tame the Bulldogs in the weekend series

San Jose State softball (4-10) will take on Fresno State (12-6) in a three-game series at Margie Wright Diamond in Fresno, Calif.

The Spartans last game against Santa Clara University went about as well as they could have hoped, as they defeated SCU 10-3 on Saturday, March 13.

The offense exploded for a ten-run output with sophomore two-way player Jocylyn Vidal hitting her first homerun of the season which drove in three runs.

Vidal drove in four runs in the game, which set a new career high.

Her previous high was three runs batted in that came on Feb. 29, 2020 against Weber State.

Junior Jenessa Ullegue hurled 4.1 innings only allowing one earned run and senior Caroline Bowman threw 2.2 innings in relief to finish the victory.

They will need their offense to keep the bats rolling and their pitching to stay strong, as they will be facing a tough opponent in the Bulldogs this weekend.

Fresno State has been dominating their opponents through 18 games played this season.

The Bulldogs have hit a combined 13 home runs with 84 RBIs, with a .278 batting average.

Fresno State has three hitters who are hitting above the .300 mark with over 35 at-bats.

Senior outfielder Kaitlyn Jennings has been a force at the plate for the Bulldogs, she is hitting for a .404 batting average and nine RBIs.

Jennings has been an extra-base hit machine, leading the team with four doubles and five triples.

The pitching has been just as effective for the Bulldogs, as they’ve only allowed opponents to hit .243 against them.

Senior right-handed pitcher Hailey Dolcini has overpowered her opponents this season, only allowing opponents to hit .194 against her.

Dolcini has thrown nine complete games including four shutouts.

In 57.2 innings pitched, Dolcini has struckout 79 of the 211 batters that she has faced, while only walking 11 of them.

Catch the series on the Mountain West Network with the first two games on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and the final game of the series at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
