San Jose State women’s soccer (0-2) was dealt a devastating blow against San Diego State (3-0) falling 6-1.
This is SJSU’s worst conference loss since joining the Mountain West in 2013 and its second consecutive losing streak of the season.
The Aztecs struck first at the second minute of the game. Senior defender Jordan Girman scored the first goal for the Aztecs with an assist by freshman forward Emma Gaines-Ramos.
For 22 minutes, both teams went back and forth committing fouls, substituting players, and attempting shots on goal.
It wasn’t until the 41st minute that senior midfielder Chloe Frisch scored the second goal for SDSU with an assist by junior midfielder Laura Fuentes.
This gave the Aztecs a two-point lead against the Spartans with just four minutes left in the first period.
Sophomore forward Rachelle Elve scored the third goal for SDSU at the 58th minute with an assist by senior defender Phoebe Leitch.
SJSU still hadn’t scored a goal to this point and this disadvantage continued to be their downfall.
Elve continued to score the fourth goal for the Aztecs at the 66th minute and at junior forward Anna Toohey kicked in the fifth goal at the 73rd minute.
With less than 20 minutes remaining in the game, the Spartans still needed to recover the five-point lead that SDSU gained.
Elve scored the sixth goal at the 80th minute leaving SJSU imminent defeat.
Freshman midfielder Bella Keomounpane scored the Spartans’ only goal of the game at the 86th minute.
SJSU will look to bounce back this Sunday at Spartan Soccer Complex against University of Nevada, Las Vegas at 12 P.M.
