Women’s water polo hits the road to face No. 3 ranked Stanford

San Jose State women’s water polo (1-2) have a gargantuan challenge ahead of them, facing off against No. 3 ranked Stanford (1-1) on Saturday.

Going back all the way to 2013, the Spartans have not won a single game against the Cardinals.

And going back even further for Stanford, they have not had a single losing season going back as far as 1999.

The Cardinals had on average over 20 wins and very few losses for all of their seasons.

SJSU has a number of strong players this season so far, with sophomore utility Olga Descalzi Portell, junior goalkeeper Hannah Henry and senior 2-meter defender Tyana Supreme being the most notable.

Descalzi Portell is one of the Spartan’s top scorers, scoring 10 out of the 29 goals made so far this season and scoring 89 goals overall in the two seasons she has played.

Henry has ranked among the conference leaders in saves per match, making 281 saves in her entire career with a .423 save percentage.

Supreme is another top scorer, scoring 5 out of the 29 goals made this season and scoring 72 goals overall in her entire career.

Even with all the strong players the Spartans have, it’s going to take a lot to defeat the Cardinal.

SJSU women’s water polo will play its match away against Stanford on Saturday at 1 p.m.
