Spartan beach volleyball serves up in Moraga at Pairs Event

San Jose State’s beach volleyball will begin its Mountain West season against Saint Mary’s College on Sunday.

Saint Mary’s (2-2, 1-0 West Coast Conference) defeated SJSU twice in 2019, 5-0 at the Stanford Beach Volleyball Complex and 3-2 in Folsom, Calif. at Livermore Park.

At the Stanford Beach Volleyball Complex match March 10, thunder, lightning and hail did not stop the Spartans from pushing the match to three sets. after winning set two 21-19.

SJSU won set two 21-19, but fell short in set one 21-18 and set three 16-14.

Five days later the Spartans met again in Folsom for a double header against Saint Mary’s and Sacramento State.

SJSU fell short Saint Mary’s 3-2 before defeating Sacramento State 4-1. 

Returning SJSU juniors Sarah Smevog and Haylee Nelson had an overall record of 7-4 in the 2019-2020 season. 

Senior Ryann Thomison will also be joining the Spartans for another season after a 7-4 overall record in 2019-2020. 

In the 2019-2020 season, SJSU finished with an overall record of 9-2. 

SJSU will play at Chapel Green Park in Moraga, Calif. starting at 11:00 a.m.
