San Jose State women’s volleyball (2-5, 2-5 MW) secured a victory against University of Nevada (3-6, 3-6 MW) this afternoon at the Spartan gym.
The Spartans were able to shield the defeat against the Wolf Pack’s mauling and took the match 3-1.
However, it was a messy battle.
Freshman setter Mia Schafer made eight errors with six kills in the first set. Overall, senior outside hitter Latahevai Lousi and junior middle blocker Haylee Nelson both made 10 errors allowing Nevada to catch up to the Spartans.
The Spartans fought them off with extra rallies managing themselves to reach those needed plays to take the first two sets.
Spartan Head Coach Trent Kersten challenged two plays to give the team two contested points after the plays were reviewed.
Nevada didn’t allow the Spartans to close out the match in set three and continued to paw their way through for a comeback.
Set four was dominated by the Spartans however.
Despite her number of errors, Schafer led with 58 assists helping the Spartans secure the win.
Lousi absolutely dominated. Her 20 kills and 20 digs led all players.
The Spartans continue the brawl with Nevada for match number two at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Spartan gym for the final game of the series.
