San Jose State women’s basketball has put all activities on pause because of COVID-19 issues, according to the team.
The Spartans (2-2, 1-2 MW) haven’t played since losing Jan. 2 at Boise State.
“Due to the pause, the previously scheduled contests against Fresno State on Jan. 10 and Colorado State on Jan. 14 and 16 have been postponed,” said SJSU assistant media relations director Connor Pelton. “Per university protocol, team activities will remain on hold until deemed safe by medical professionals.”
The first of the two-game series against Fresno State was postponed because of COVID issues on the Bulldogs’ end.
Neither women’s nor men’s basketball has played at Provident Credit Union Event Center this season since Santa Clara County’s restrictions on contact sports went into effect late November.
On Dec. 8 the team announced a positive test from a member of the program, stopping activities for two weeks and cancelling scheduled games against the University of the Pacific and Sacramento State.
Both women’s and men’s basketball programs relocated to Arizona Grand Resort & Spa in Phoenix the next week.
While the women’s team has struggled to play games, the men have “hosted” opponents at both Grand Canyon University’s GCU Arena and Ability 360 Sports and Fitness Center — the latter a fitness center for people with disabilities.
The next opportunity for the women’s team to get back on the court will be at home Jan. 21 against New Mexico.
