WBB’s Hafoka returns as grad assistant

Former San Jose State women’s basketball captain Fieme’a Hafoka is returning to the team as a graduate assistant, the team announced today.

Hafoka captained the Spartans for three of her four years in San Jose, and started every game her junior and senior seasons. The guard is fifth in SJSU history in free throw percentage (.811) and second in games played (121, one game away from the school record).

This is another move for head coach Jamie Craighead, who inked a three-year extension in the offseason. Former men’s assistant coach Ryan Cooper was named associate head coach in April.

Third in the Mountain West last season, the Spartans are retaining the dynamic duo of Ayzhiana Basallo and Tyra Whitehead while adding talent including NJCAA DII player of the year Autam Mendez.

Hafoka’s addition to the bench brings a familiar face back for a Spartan team looking to build on an impressive 2019-20 season.
